Four teams launched under sunny skies, temps in the upper 70s, and ENE winds at 10-12 knots. With a dying breeze and strong outgoing current, the sea state was best described as slop and chop. Three full round robins were completed, with winds barely above the 4 knot minimum during the middle round, then rising to 6-7 knots for the final round. Race times were between 9 and 17 minutes, depending on the vagaries in the wind strength.
Major thank you to volunteer umpires Ian Lineberger and Alan Capellin and to members of the USF sailing team.
Congratulations to the College of Charleston who won with an unblemished 9-0 record and will advance to the National Championship and to runner-up host USF with a 5-4 record. Ending on a fun note, with first and second positions already secured, Charleston and USF decided to sail the final race of the event as a crew race, to the delight of all.
