2026 CGA J70 Finals

Summary

Saturday, April 18:

It was a busy day on the Thames River, with the inaugural CGA J70 Finals sailing north of the Rock and the NEISA Women’s Fleet Race Championship taking place just to the south. Nine races were completed, beginning in a light northeasterly breeze that shifted east over the first set, before swinging fully to the south and building for the next two sets. The Thames saw a strong ebb current that continued to build over the day, creating fun and challenging wind-against-tide conditions on the starting line. Sailors handled the ebb well, with only 1 general recall, and excellent starting overall. Racing remains tight across the fleet, with the Coast Guard Bears, Rhode Island Rams, and Brown Bears leading the charge heading into day two.

Sunday, April 19:

Day two of the J70 finals began with a short 30 min postponement due to light air and fog. The wind turned on and racing commenced in a light NNW breeze which slowly built and shifted west through the the first set of the day. The 4th and final race saw a big jump in breeze with gusts into the high 20 knots before racing was called due to gusts in the mid-thirties. The URI Rams continued their great sailing from day one, leading them to 1st place on the weekend. The Brown Bears surged back to 2nd place, with the Coast Guard Bears finishing a strong 3rd overall to round out the podium.

Congrats to all Competitors and thanks to everyone for making the trip. Major thanks to all of the Coast Guard Bears who did a great job running races this weekend!

The following chart shows the relative rank of the teams as of the race indicated. Note that the races are ordered by number, then division, which may not represent the order in which the races were actually sailed.

The first place team as of a given race will always be at the top of the chart. The spacing from one team to the next shows relative gains/losses made from one race to the next. You may hover over the data points to display the total score as of that race.
