Washington College Sailing welcomed teams to the Chester River, which provided a blustery day and strong tide. Teams began racing at 1110 in 12-15 kts, with strong gusts and current providing challenging racing. After a tough first set for each division, a short on shore postponement for some very large gusts to finish rolling through paused races. A division returned to the water for one more set before racing was called for the day due to an unusually low tide making rotations impossible. 2 redresses were heard and denied. 2 more protests in A division were filed and will be heard in the morning on Sunday.
Sailors arrived for the last day of racing with a good breeze from the north. B division began racing just after 1000 with little current and 8-10 kts of breeze. The 2 protests in A Div from yesterday were heard, resulting in 2 DSQs. Both A and B divisions experienced some big shifts throughout the day, but all sailors persevered, completing a total of 8 races in each division overall for the weekend. Racing was called at 1420, after 8B, due to the impossibility of completing a full set for both A and B divisions.
Congratulations to Navy for their 1st and 2nd place finishes, with the Shoremen rounding out the podium in 3rd. Central Series team also completed their 3rd series regatta and Drexel, Rutgers, Princeton, Washington College, Delaware, and Villanova earned berths at next weeks Luce Trophy, hosted in Chestertown.
Thank you to Ben and River on Shore, making sure our committee boats were good to go. Also a big thank you to Dru, for recording scores, Courtney, for day 1 photos, and Sam, for day 2 photos. Washington College sailors and Assistant Coach Pat rounded out the RC and Mark Boat.
