SAISA Women's Top 6 Invite

Five teams met at USF to compete in the SAISA Women's Top Six Invite. Racing started promptly at 10:00am in a north to NNE breeze at 4-7 knots. An incoming tide challenged the fleet, pushing them over the line for four general recalls before the first clear line allowed sailors to make their way up the course. Up-course current continued causing trouble throughout the morning, leading to multiple individual recalls and a few more generals before the fleet settled in. An increase in pressure as the morning went on was accompanied by a shift to the northeast and lots of moving marks. Sailors saw a range of wind from 6-8 knots with gusts to 10 before breaking for lunch after six races.

The afternoon came with a changing tide and decreasing wind velocity. Wind came from the north, then northeast, and finally settled back into its NNE direction by the end of racing. Afternoon racing also saw many course changes, but the outgoing tide allowed for far fewer individual and general recalls. With the changes in wind velocity, ranging from 6-9 knots and gusts to 13, and a building down-course current, race durations varied considerably. By the 11th race, half of the fleet struggled to round the weather mark against the tide, heralding the end of racing.

All courses were W-4. No protests, redress, or breakdowns filed.

Sailors arrived on Sunday to glassy waters and calm seas. Teams were postponed on shore until 11:30am when a consistent 4-5 knots filled in across the course. The fleet sailed two races in 4-6 knots from the southeast with an incoming tide in the Coast Guard basin. Racing was concluded by 1:00pm.

There were no protests, breakdowns, or redresses filed.
