SAISA North at Columbia

The SAISA North regatta, hosted by South Carolina at the Columbia Sailing Club in Columbia, South Carolina, was defined by persistent rain that escalated into a torrential downpour, creating a challenging and uncomfortable day on the water. While breeze levels were manageable, the steady precipitation, reduced visibility, and soaked conditions tested teams’ focus, communication, and ability to stay composed over a full six-race series in both divisions.

Clemson emerged as the clear winner, finishing with just 18 total points and demonstrating exceptional balance between divisions. The Tigers were equally strong in A and B, with both sides contributing low, consistent scores that kept them firmly in control of the regatta from start to finish. Host team South Carolina took second with 22 points, also showing strong balance across both divisions. Their ability to stay consistently near the front of the fleet in both A and B kept them within reach, but Clemson’s lower aggregate scores ultimately proved decisive. NC State secured third with 50 points, driven by a solid A division performance that helped offset higher scores in B. Just one point behind, Davidson finished fourth with 51, reflecting a tight battle in the middle of the standings where small differences in consistency made the difference. North Carolina placed fifth with 54 points, highlighted by a competitive B division that kept them in contention with the teams ahead. UNC Wilmington rounded out the field in sixth with 57 points.

In a regatta where conditions made even routine maneuvers more difficult, the results reflected the importance of minimizing mistakes and maintaining consistency across both divisions. Clemson’s steady, low-scoring performance on both sides of the boat made the difference in a wet and demanding SAISA North event.
