Champagne conditions on Lake Virginia for the Bud Morrow Open Team Race. Eight SAISA teams along with our friends from Kings Point, completed a full round robin today in eight to twelve knots of breeze from a shifty, yet stable easterly direction. Multiple jib halyard failures from our aging fleet required three races to be re-sailed at the end of the day.
Charleston remains undefeated, with Miami, Jacksonville, and Rollins rounding out the teams competing in tomorrow's final four round. A bottom-six round will also be sailed for the remaining teams.
Sunday brought lighter conditions from the South with wind speeds from four to ten knots. Another shifty day on the lake made for some dynamic team racing, forcing teams to close out races all the way out to the finish.
Congratulations to the Charleston Cougars for winning the event with an undefeated record. Jacksonville and Miami round out the podium for second and third, respectively.
Congratulations to the Clemson Tigers for qualifying for the SAISA Open Team Race Championship.
Shout out to all the Tars who helped allow the regatta to run both days smoothly. Big thank you to our team of umpires, Mateo Rodriguez '23 and Andre Guaragna '21, along with a tag team of coach umpires (Jon Faudree, Rachael Silverstein, Connor Corgard, and Conner Blouin).
