Day 1 of the 2026 Southern Collegiate Offshore Regatta featured a full day of racing across all fleets, with five races completed in the J/105 and Sportboat classes and four races in the J/22 fleet. The Race Committee set up southeast of Middle Ground, and Charleston Harbor delivered excellent racing conditions with a steady 6-10 knot easterly breeze. A strong ebb tide dominated the race course during the frist two races of the day before shifting to a moderate flood during race 3, rewarding teams that adjusted quickly to the changing current.
In Sportboat B, the Red Hawks from Miami University lead the fleet aboard the Mumm 30 Maggie, posting an impressive 1, 1, 1, 3, 2 scoreline. The Wolfpack from NC State, sailing the J/36 Soul, hold a narrow second place despite taking a foul in Race 1. The Michigan Wolverines remain in contention, just two points back in third aboard the J/120 Keelforce.
With heavy winds and thunderstorms forecast for the afternoon, Day 2 of the SCOR featured one epic distance race sailed in a SSE 10-15 knots with a very strong ebb tide. The Race Committee set up at the end of the Carolina Yacht Club Piers, each fleet enjoyed a stunning backdrop of the Charleston city front. The course sent teams on a beat up to James Island, a reach to and from Fort Sumter, a run to the Ravenel Bridge and a final beat back to the finish at Carolina Yacht Club.
In Sportboat B, the Miami University Red Hawks continued their strong day 1 performance. A third place finish in the distance race secured first overall in class for the weekend. The Michigan Wolverines, with a strong second place finish on the day moved up to second overall, while NC state University finished third, just one point back from Michigan.
Congratulations to Charleston's J105 team for winning the regatta's Top Boat award. A huge thank you to Carolina Yacht Club for hosting, the many volunteers who spent months prepping for the SCOR, the Race Committee for running six excellent races, and the boat owners and safety officers who made it possible to get all of these college sailors out on the water.
