Little Three

Summary

Saturday, April 26:

A wet spring day on Lake Champlain provided just enough wind to complete the Little Three Regatta on the waters outside of Historic Arnold's Bay. Despite fog and mixed weather all day, the fleet sailed five races in winds 5-10kts S before 1pm when they became light and variable. Around 4pm, a patient B fleet managed to catch the remnant breezes of an Adirondack rain squall to complete their third race, making it a regatta just before the wind fully died. Competitors patiently waiting on shore were treated to music and hot food from the grill which kept spirits high.

The visiting Catamounts placed first and third, with UMass Amherst and McGill close behind. Middlebury seniors Penelope Weekes '25 and Maggie Hannis '25 sailed very well in their final collegiate regatta, putting Middlebury's team 1 into second place overall. Congratulations also to Salomé Vuarlot '25 for a great final college competition, sailing with Aidan Ulian '27, as well as the seniors from visiting teams.

Finally, thanks to Will Proctor '24, Brent Coulthard, Steve Ulian, and Maia Wang '26 of Williams for help aboard committee and support boats, and the Middlebury grill and shore teams. Well done to all.

The following chart shows the relative rank of the teams as of the race indicated. Note that the races are ordered by number, then division, which may not represent the order in which the races were actually sailed.

The first place team as of a given race will always be at the top of the chart. The spacing from one team to the next shows relative gains/losses made from one race to the next. You may hover over the data points to display the total score as of that race.
