2025 Marchiando Trophy-Red Regatta

Summary

Saturday, March 29:

It was a windy and cold early spring day on the Charles River Basin with 7-18 knots from the ENE and passing rain showers throughout the day. Racing began right at 11 and concluded at 6pm.

100 total races were sailed between the Marchiando Red and Grey events. The grueling pace kept the sailors busy and the fantastic umpire team made it all possible with very few breaks during the 7 hour racing window.

Huge thanks to the competitors, coaches, RC team and umpires for keeping the racing moving.THe hope is complete the double round robin and sail a 3rd round robin on Sunday.

Sunday, March 30:

Another efficient day of racing with ESE winds with 5-10 knots of velocity. 68 races were completed before 3pm with 2 re-sails held after the 3pm time limit expired.

Huge thanks to the umpire team of chief umpire John Pratt, JP Panarella, Moose McClintock, Jack Reiter, Clinton Hayes, Will Bailey, Sam Merson, Zach Shapiro and Franny Charles. This group endured long hours and grueling conditions to keep the racing fair.

Races were run by Mike Kanare in the finish boat and Matt Lindblad in the start boat. Congratulations to Marchiando Grey winners Harvard with a 20-1 record and Marchiando Red winners Boston College with an 18-3 record.

The Lynne Marchiando Trophy honors MIT Sailor and team captain Lynne Marchiando who tragically lost her life her senior year at MIT. Lynne was a top student and passionate sailor who's legacy certainly was evident at the competition this weekend.

-Matt Lindblad, Cucchiaro Family Director of Sailing
