Another spring Nor’easter hit Maine with over a foot of snow and high winds. Bowdoin Schiller Coastal Studies Center’s grounds had the facilities plowed and shoveled but trees on a power line blocked road access. On Friday, The Bowdoin Women’s Team Race was moved to The US Coast Guard Academy. A noon report time allowed Bowdoin to relocate across New England for an afternoon of racing. This regatta contributed to a busy race day on The Thames River with The Emily Wick to the North and a J70 Invite to the South.
With the assistance from coaches and alternates, 3 rounds were completed before a resail from round 1 between Coast Guard and Bowdoin. There were 2 breakdowns, one of which resulted in a resail.
Conditions were sporty with a 10-15 knot Northerly and a strong ebbing current. The last round saw many white caps indicating the breeze building to 25 knots.
Huge thank you to The US Coast Guard Academy's, Ali Blumenthal, for making this event happen! Thank you to the athletes who assisted on race committee: Coast Guard’s Sarah Krajewski and Bowdoin’s Posie Cabaniss, Christine Reimer, Hazel Johnson, Kyra Phelan and Katie Kurtz.
