Racing started slowly with an on-show postponement persisting about forty five minutes. Finally, a light Northerly filled consistently, boats hit the water and the RC led by PRO, Nic Baird began starting races. As the breeze filled it became more consistent, stayed North and the regatta found its groove. After a rather active morning, mark boat Preston Anderson and Peter Barrow reported a lack of responsibility with the efficiency the conditions allowed. The first twenty races or so were sailed in 5-10 knots, the middle twenty met 8-12 and the final 20 found winds around 12-18 knots. Augie Dale handled breakdowns (which were primarily centerboard down-haul lines cause by reaching rotations and shallow shoals. A handful of Stanford sailors and one Stanford Alum, Sammy Pickell rounded out the RC.
One redress was filed by Harvard but was subsequently dropped. Many thanks to Rob Overton for Chief umpiring a crew of eleven umps in total. Racing seemed fair and a credit to the experienced squad. Next to Rob stood Craig Daniels, Stacey Gibb, Kevin Kawkins, Ty Ingram, Julia Jaynes, Bryan McDonald, Greg Meagher, Clark Url, Raymond Huffman and John Christman.
The round of 12 was completed, sixty six races sailed, the top-6 and the middle round has been determined. At the mid-way point, Yale sit atop the leader board with an 11-0 record.
Racing began Sunday around 10am with a cool, cloudy, fifteen knot Westerly. As the day progressed, the breeze ticked up to 18-22 knots. 21 total races we sailed Sunday to complete the second round of six teams, Yale, Stanford, Brown, MIT, Boston College and Cornell and the final four.
Yale University was named the victors with a 18-1 record and a 2-1 advantage over 17-2 Stanford. Congratulations!
It was an honor to host such a great group of competitors.
