Ocean County Spring Open

Summary

Saturday, April 8:

After a three year absence due to the COVID Pandemic, the Ocean County College Sailing Team hosted its first collegiate regatta at the Toms River Yacht Club. Teams were welcomed with a cold breeze coming from northeast and shifting throughout the day to east. The race committee completed 8 races with winds ranging from 8 to 12 knots offering a variety conditions for the sailors. Thank you to Brendan Hogan who served as RC and Sean Crabb as mark boat. A very big thank you to our local high school sailors from Donovan Catholic, Toms River South, and Toms River North for getting all the boats ready prior to the regatta. James Kopack, Caroline Felser, Illiana Vasslides, Liam Marcell, Cali Krean, Bridget Felser and Morgan Poskay served as mark boat and finish boat. Great job to our future collegiate sailors.

Sunday, April 9:

Teams arrived at the Toms River Yacht Club for report time at 9:30 on Easter Sunday. Race 9A started at 10:00 with light winds out of the north shifting northeast. The Race Committee completed 13 races for the regatta. Congratulations to Washington College for winning the Ocean County Spring Open. Hampton University finished in 2nd Place and Syracuse University rounded up the top three teams. Thanks to Sean Crabb and James Kopack who served as mark boats. Thank you to Clay Johnson of Colie Sails in Point Pleasant for supplying the OCC Sailing Team with all our equipment and sailing needs. We would also like to recognize the Toms River Yacht Club for their continued support of intercollegiate sailing in our area.
