NEISA Women's Championship/Reed Trophy

Summary

Saturday, April 22:

It was a shifty first day of racing at the NEISA Women's Championship for the Reed Trophy at the Ted Turner Sailing '60 Sailing Pavilion at the Edgewood Yacht Club. A tricky mainly easterly wind direction really challenged the fleet and the race committee all day long. Wind velocity was mainly between 6-8 kts with some bigger puffs and there was also strong cross current. 8 races were sailed in each division with A-division in FJs and B-division in 420s. No protests or breakdowns were filed.

Sunday, April 23:

Day two of the NEISA Women's Championship for the Reed Trophy brought more tricky conditions. Competitors arrived to a super unstable east/southeast breeze that died and brought in some thunder. We sent everyone in for about an hour and half delay before a nice southeasterly filled which also brought with it lots of rain at times. Winds were between 6-12 kts with some bigger puffs and strong current at times. 6 more races were sailed in each division to finish the 14 race rotation with A-division in 420s and B-division in FJs. One protest was filed resulting in a DSQ for Dartmouth in race 13B. One breakdown was awarded to Northeastern in race 13B. The racing was really good and tight despite the rain and cold, and we sailed right off the docks with possible storms lurking in case we had to get in quickly. This was a racetrack and direction I think we sailed for the first time here at Brown.

Thanks to our great Judges Bob Austin-Lafrance, Sam Patterson, and Trevor Long, NEISA Rep Frank Pizzo, photographer Rob Migliaccio, and Brown sailors Sierra Bornheim '24, Connor Macken '24, and Talia Levine '26 who helped out. Thanks as well to Connecticut College and the Moses Brown School for lending powerboats.

Congratulations to MIT on winning the NEISA Women's Championship for the Reed Trophy. They built a strong lead after day one and held on to finish it off with Harvard closing in with a great Sunday. Congratulations to both MIT and Harvard on receiving Automatic Qualifying berths for the ICSA Women's National Championship.

The following chart shows the relative rank of the teams as of the race indicated. Note that the races are ordered by number, then division, which may not represent the order in which the races were actually sailed.

The first place team as of a given race will always be at the top of the chart. The spacing from one team to the next shows relative gains/losses made from one race to the next. You may hover over the data points to display the total score as of that race.
