The John Jackson Memorial Team Race regatta is named for John T. Jackson Georgetown Class of 2003 who was a beloved member of the sailing team. John passed away in the summer after graduation in a tragic accident in Chicago. Winds gusting close to 40mph greeted the sailors Saturday AM. A few postponements on land ensued to allow the winds to lighten and the temperature to rise. Around 11am the race committee headed out to set a course. The racing was pretty crazy with puffs over 35mph and 30 degree windshifts. We had a few capsizes and many breakdowns but managed to finish round one and a little of round two before the blowout tides made Sailing impossible.
A very different day. A few races were sailed in a very light ENE wind before the wind died completely. After a postponement the wind filled in a little bit at 12PM from the ESE. A few more races were sailed before the race committee decided to try for a top 6 instead of a round 2. By 245PM it became apparent that the top 6 wouldn’t finish in time so racing was called for the day after the final sail off race occurred.
Many thanks to our umpires Andy Reiter, Gwynie Dunlevy, Marley Mais, Morgan Sailer, JP Panarella and Taylor Walshe. And thanks to PRO Preston Anderson and his crew for getting races completed in challenging conditions.
