The Thames River provided a cold, rainy and classic Easterly breeze averaging 7-14 knots but with unpredictable 20-23 knot gusts occasionally dropping down from the hill and wiping out multiple boats. Racing was extremely tight throughout the day with the top teams transitioning well through the variable conditions. The University of Wisconsin Badgers appeared to be most at home battling the gusty and shifty breeze and head into day 2 with a narrow lead with only 7 points currently separating 1st through 5th.
Day 2 of racing was the perfect contrast to day 1, sunny and in the high fifties, with the first three races sailed in a strong West-Northwest, and the following 3 sailed in a strong Southwesterly. Competitors navigated shifty and puffy conditions throughout the day with racing remaining tight between each team. Bears 2 put on an excellent performance and were able to win the day and the event after a final nail-biting race. Congrats to all competitors for a great regatta!
