Sailors were greeted by some rain drizzle and much less breeze than anticipated. Apart from one hard windshift to the SE during a rain squall, the breeze remained out of the East for most of the day (a rare direction at Kings Point) flowing directly over the Academy hill. This direction kept the breeze shifty but a manageable velocity - although it kept rotations moving very slowly.
The first round robin was able to be completed by 1630. The plan for Sunday will be a Top 6, Bottom 4 with the potential for additional rounds if time allows.
Many thanks to all of the Umpires and the volunteers for enduring the chilly and wet conditions to make sure the event ran smoothly!
Sunday hosted champagne sailing conditions for March with a warm westerly breeze ranging from 10-18 knots and temps in the mid 60s (a stark but welcome contrast to the conditions yesterday).
The Top 6, Bottom 4 was completed by 1230. A Final four between Brown, Dartmouth, UPenn, and Navy was subsequently sailed. Congratulations to the Dartmouth Big Green for securing the win, with it coming down to the final race of the day!
Chief Umpire Eric Johnson led a team consisting of Kelsey Wheeler, Bruce Cook, Tony Weiner, Paul Gilman, Sam Hahn, and Pat Sykes. Many thanks to all of the Umpires who volunteered their weekend to keep things fair on the water for all competitors. A big thank you to the Kings Point midshipman who helped to run races.
