Racing kicked off Saturday in a downpour along with a sporty SSW breeze at 15-20 knots and the occasional gust to 25 knots. Race 1 saw one kite bite the dust along with a skied halyard. Mid-way through race 2 the breeze plummeted to a tricky SW of ~6-14 knots, with the sailors navigating these conditions throughout the rest of the day. Racing is close at the top with URI and Tufts currently leading going into day 2.
Day 2 of racing brought a nuclear northwesterly breeze of 20-30 knots and a strong ebbing tide at the starting line and across two thirds of the race course. The far left side of the course had a strong favorable flood tide and sailors would rip out to the left, cross the current line and then short tack up that side of the course to come out on top. The first four races were sailed with reefed mains and no kites, the final two raced with full mains and kites. Each team elevated their game throughout the weekend with CGA Bears 2, the Embry-Riddle Eagles and the Tufts Jumbos battling it out for third, with the Eagles just edging out the Jumbos and Bears 2 in the final race for 3rd overall. CGA Bears 1 and the URI Rams duked it out for 1st, with Bears 1 finishing with a clutch 1,1,1 in the final three races to win the event. Congrats to all competitors!
