Four enthusiastic teams participated in the first-ever SAISA Conference Women's Team Racing Championships hosted by the University of South Florida. Winds proceeded to slowly veer from N to E throughout the day, starting at 6-8 knots, building to 8-10 knots, then rapidly fading to under 4 knots about 2pm.
While 4 full round-robin rounds were optimistically scheduled, with the dying breeze only 3 were sailed. Races were generally 9-10 minutes in length, with a few exceptions as the breeze faded.
A special thank you to our umpires; Phil Pape, Sean Cornell, and Dan Kulkoski for volunteering their time and expertise; ICSA rep Caroline Young (Eckerd); and USF sailors Luke King and Ochithya Fernando for serving as RC.
Racing was tight, with the top 3 teams separated by only 1 win. Host USF prevailed with a 7-2 record, closely followed by Jacksonville with a 6-3 record and Charleston with a 5-4 record. Kudos to Eckerd for entering the championship and rounding out the field of four.
