SAISA Women's Spring Fleet Racing Championship

Summary

Saturday, April 2:

The SAISA Conference women's fleet racing championships were hosted by the University of South Florida's St. Petersburg campus. Eight teams competed in FJ's, eight races were held, all W4's averaging 18 minutes in length, with combined A and B division starts.

With a SSW breeze, Tampa Bay was very flat with winds in the 8-10 knot range, building to 10-15 knots in the afternoon. A frontal boundary was rapidly approaching however, skies were darkening, and thunderstorms were threatening. As the last boats finished the final race, the gust front hit and winds were recorded at 40+ knots, with the fleet of FJ's having an epic sail back in.

One protest was filed resulting in one DSQ. Many thanks to US Sailing Judge Dan Kulkoski for volunteering to help with this event.

Congratulations to Jacksonville University and College of Charleston for finishing 1-2 and advancing to the semi-finals in May. The battle for 3rd, 4th, and 5th came down to the last race, separated by only 6 points, with Miami, NC State, and USF finishing in that order. Rounding out the fleet was Eckerd, Florida State, and Georgia Tech.

The following chart shows the relative rank of the teams as of the race indicated. Note that the races are ordered by number, then division, which may not represent the order in which the races were actually sailed.

The first place team as of a given race will always be at the top of the chart. The spacing from one team to the next shows relative gains/losses made from one race to the next. You may hover over the data points to display the total score as of that race.
