Teams were greeted by fresh conditions with breeze in the mid to upper teens and colder temps for New Orleans at around 50. Racing got underway at 10:15, but the breeze died to less than 3 knots by 11:30, and a lengthy postponement ashore took place until around 2:00. The breeze somehow came back at a manageable 3-5 knot Westerly that allowed us to complete the first round at 4:00pm for the day.
After Round 1 UCSB and Tulane sit tied atop the leaderboard, but there is plenty in store for day 2.
A much better day of sailing today with a stable 8-13 knots out of the East with temps in the 60s made for a great day of competition.
We were able to complete 2 rounds with a short break in between.
In the end Tulane came out on top, with a 12-3 record. Narrowly missing out on the top spot was a strong UCSB squad in 2nd, with College of Charleston closing out the final podium position in 3rd.
A big thanks to the race committee for doing all they could to keep the racing square and fair.
Congrats to the Tulane Green Wave for winning the 2022 Nelson Roltsch Team Race, and thank you to all the visiting teams for making the trip.
