The USF Mendelblatt Team Race Regatta participants were greeted to the roar of engines as the St. Petersburg Grand Prix was underway. Unfortunately, the wind did not cooperate and teams raced with marginal winds inside Bayboro Harbor. As a dome of high pressure settled right over Florida, beach conditions were excellent, but sailing was problematic. The race committee managed to get through almost all of the first rotation.
Racing among the top 7 teams was tight with College of Charleston, Jacksonville University, University of Miami, and USF all in the hunt. Wind forecast for Day 2 continues to be light, but manageable.
Day 2 saw the field down to 6 teams as Rollins retired from Sunday's races. Slightly better conditions allowed the race committee to complete round 1 and all of round 2 races.
College of Charleston and University of Miami ended with identical 8-2 records, each besting the other once, but the tie-breaker awarded the victory to CoC. Host USF placed third.
Thanks to visiting teams, competitors, coaches, and USF parents and alumni for their assistance in running the regatta.
