Opening weekend of New England College Sailing! We didn't have sailable wind until after noon. When the Southerly started to fill, the current was ebbing hard, which made for some long down wind legs in the first flight. The breeze steadily built to ~14 knots and we got into a good groove of banging out races. We did back to back races, which helps to speed things up a little bit. The temperature also started to drop with more cloud cover overhead and we called racing around 4:30.
The intention is to finish the rounds tomorrow and see what Mother Nature has in store for us. Lots of rain and some more wind are headed in our direction.
HUGE THANKS to Hawks Jack Leahy and Colin Martz who were on the finish boat, slowly turning to popsicles. Also to Ken Legler, Cori Radtke, Abigayle Konys, and Sawyer Balint for hearing 4 protests after racing.
Fog engulfed the Mt. Hope Bay, but we had just enough visibility to fit in a course within sight of the Schow Roof deck. For most of the day the breeze was 8-12, and with the ebb tide created some wavy conditions. After finishing the 2nd round around 11:30, we started off a 3rd round hoping to be finished before the forecasted big wind at 1. That wind never materialized; the rain was short lived. All in all, loads of racing for all the teams.
Several protests were filed. Only a couple were heard, resulting in 1 DSQ. Again thanks to Cori Radtke, Sawyer Balint, and Megan Roach for hearing the protests.
