No wind in the morning. Racing started just after noon in a light but building southerly breeze which was a little unstable at first. Current was flooding for most of the day and gave the competitors some troubles particularly in tight windward mark roundings. We took a 30 minute break between the first round and second rounds. The breeze had filled in to a solid 12-15 in the afternoon. The tide switched just as the second round got underway, which produced some good waves. There was significant damage after a collision in the pink/green fleet that they needed to come out of the rotation for the rest of the regatta. 50 races were sailed before the 6pm cutoff time.
Many thanks to the umpires: ChUmp John Mooney, Mikey Gemperline, Scott Booth, Jimmy Kennedy, Bob Austin Lafrance, and Rex Cameron.
Hawks Grant Gridley, Emmett Nevel and Katy Benagh also did some great work on the start and finish boats.
Racing got underway at 10:15 in an 8 knot, shifty Westerly breeze. Tide was coming in all day, so there was some good cross current. We finished the 2nd round and attempted a Top 6 after a sail off between Tufts and Conn for the last spot. However, that was too ambitious and instead finished with an all Ivy League Final 4. Racing was incredible tight among the top 7 teams.
Many thanks to John Mooney, Connecticut College and Brown University for lending us umpire boats for the weekend.
Hawks undergrads Chase Reynolds, Ruby Hope and Luke Hosek did a great job on RC.
