SAISA Women's Conference Championship

Summary

Saturday, April 3:

Late season brisk weather descended upon Florida for the SAISA Women's Conference Championships. At the start, temperatures were in the 50's, winds were 15 knots gusting to 20 from the NNE, and there was a strong current for Tampa Bay due to an incoming tide all day. As forecast, temperatures rose to the upper 70's and winds diminished to 8-10 knots by the conclusion of racing.

Eight teams were scheduled to race, but three were forced to withdraw due to difficulties with the attestation forms. The five teams that competed drove as far as 20 hours round-trip (shout out to NC State!) to attend. Eight races were sailed, combined A and B divisions, and all courses were W-4s, averaging 16 minutes in length.

Congratulations to College of Charleston who swept the event, taking the top two spots and winning 6 out of the 8 races. Jacksonville University was runner-up, and host USF finished 3rd. A special nod to Florida Tech who attended their first women's conference championships.

Thank you to all competitors and coaches, and a special thank-you to our USF Athletic Trainer for being on-hand to treat one probable pulled hamstring following a capsize.
