Saturday brought terrific February sailing conditions to the Charles River for the Women’s Team Race. The temperature hovered around freezing all day, but a westerly breeze persisted ranging from 5 - 13 kts. The six competing teams completed one and a half rounds, stopping midway for a short break from the cold.
Thank you to BU undergraduates Javier de Urdanibia Paños, Chet Swanson, Matt Hamelsky, and Teo Waalberg for assisting with safety boat duties and recording finishes. Coaches Mike Kalin (MIT), Martim Anderson (Yale), and Ken Legler (Tufts) provided additional help through the day.
Report time on Sunday is 10:00 AM.
The Charles River returned to its old self and delivered a puffy breeze that pinballed between N and ESE today. Two races were abandoned and re-sailed due to 30-degree shifts, and mark boats were busy all day adjusting the course.
Two boats suffered from equipment issues early in the day; one boat filed for, but did not receive, redress for a breakdown.
Thank you again to the BU undergrads manning the safety and finish boats and to all of the coaches for their help throughout the weekend. Martim Anderson and Ken Legler heard today’s breakdown request.
Congratulations to Brown University for winning the Women’s Team Race!
