Sent our first flight into the water to try to find some breeze. Sailed with shifting breeze for a few flights before losing pressure. After a 180° shift and a short postponement, we got back out on the water to finish up the day. The breeze and racing continued till sunset. We finished 21 races and almost completed our round robin. We plan to finish it off and move into top/bottom 4's tomorrow.
In the early morning the breeze climbed to a sustained 25-30 knots with 35+ knot gusts. With a full moon the night before, the 8 ft tide change was already creating a choppy sea state. The PRO decided to wait to see if the predicted direction change and slight decrease in wind strength would move in. After a morning of postponement waiting for a direction switch to the north to gain enough shelter to set a course, the RC and the PRO decided to call the regatta due to safety concerns and an unpromising forecast that offered no opportunity to finish the round robin or enter a final four run off. Thank you to PRO Paul Manning, our RC, our umpires, our alumni volunteers, and all of our competitors for coming out!
