A terrific day for the 2nd Annual Women's Team Race National Invitational hosted by Brown University at the Ted Turner Sailing Pavilion at the Edgewood Yacht Club. 13 teams competed -10 from NEISA and Cornell, UPenn, and the University of South Florida. 78 races were sailed to complete round robin one with each team sailing 12 races. Conditions turned out to be fantastic, after starting the day with a fickle mainly south breeze that was shifty to the west and east and between 6-10 knots. Once the sun came out at around 1pm, the full southerly kicked in and the breeze built to a steady 10-15 knots. 18 FJs and 12 Z420s were used for 5 races per flight. Some excellent team racing today and it will be great to see this event turn into an end of the season ICSA Women's Team Race National Championship at some point in the near future.
A huge thanks to Brown Assistant Coach Dan Rabin and Sam Alexander (Brown 2018) for helping run races along with a large group of Brown undergrads that helped out: Emi Ruth, Gabe Hannon, Camden Baer, Jack Briano, Jack Papetti, Jed Bell, and Zack Jordan. Special thanks to Stan Schreyer from Boston University for being the ICSA Representative and to Rob Migliaccio for taking incredible photos throughout the day that will be up on the NEISA Facebook page. A huge thanks to URI and Dartmouth for bringing umpire boats and to our incredible group of umpires: Peter Bailey (CHUMP), John Tagliamonte, Tony Weiner, Emily Shanley-Roberts, John Moulthrop, Charlotte Lipschtiz, Michael Levesque, and Lily Lichtenstein.
Report time for Sunday is 9:30am with race one of Top 8 Gold Round to begin at 10:00am along with a bottom 5 round. A Final 4 round will be sailed if time and conditions permit. The Brown Bears lead after day one with an 11-1 record.
Another terrific day for the 2nd Annual Women's Team Race National Invitational hosted by Brown University at the Ted Turner Sailing Pavilion at the Edgewood Yacht Club. The day started with a light southerly as soon as the sun came out at 3-6 knots. After getting through a bunch of races, the southerly died as some clouds rolled in and we postponed ashore for about 30 minutes. At around 12:45pm, the southerly filled back in as the clouds cleared and the temps rose to around 60 degrees. The southerly slowly built throughout the afternoon up to 12 knots or so. We were able to finish the Gold round of the top 8 teams and a double Silver round robin for the bottom 5 teams by the 3pm cutoff time. 18 FJs were used for the Gold round and 12 Z420s were used for Silver round. Some more excellent team racing today and it will be great to see this event turn into an end of the season ICSA Women's Team Race National Championship at some point in the near future.
A huge thanks to Brown Assistant Coach Dan Rabin and Sam Alexander (Brown 2018) for helping run races along with a large group of Brown undergrads that helped out today: Emi Ruth, Gabe Hannon, Tucker Weed, Brian Kirz, Alex Rothberg, and Jed Bell. They had to hear a few requests for redress today that were granted, including one resail race between Dartmouth and BU.
Congrats to the Brown Bears for winning the 2nd Annual Women's Team Race National Invitational with a 17-2 record and to second place Dartmouth and third place MIT. The Bears will get to represent the ICSA at the 2019 Laser Performance Collegiate Cup in Lake Garda, Italy in August for some more great team racing.
