USF Women's

Summary

Saturday, February 16:

Nine teams were treated to spectacular warm, sunny, breezy conditions on Tampa Bay. Sailing 3 race rotations, in combined divisions, racing began in Bayboro Harbor in 5-8 knots, but as the southerly breeze built to 16 knots, racing moving outside. Ten races were completed, no protests filed, several capsizes, and two breakdowns, both jib halyards.

Conditions look similar for Sunday, and 8 additional races are planned to complete the rotation.

Sunday, February 17:

Eight races were sailed today to complete the rotation, all inside Bayboro Harbor. Courses were W4, W5, and W6. The morning races were in 5-8 knots of breeze with very flat water. As the land heated to a near-record 80 degrees, the seabreeze rapidly built to 12-20 knots from the south, very shifty and gusty conditions.

No breakdowns today, quite a few capsizes, and one redress awarded to Clemson for stopping to assist another sailor who had become separated from her boat following a downwind wipe-out.

Thank you to Eckerd coach Greer Watson for serving as ICSA Rep, USF Athletics trainer Anita Fanelli, USF assistant coach Ali Deese, and to the members of the USF women's sailing team who ran the regatta. Finally we are very appreciative of all the teams who supported the regatta.

Victory goes to USF, winning both A and B divisions. Second through fourth were all Florida schools, in order, Jacksonville, Eckerd, and Miami. UCLA rounded out the top five.

Score history

The following chart shows the relative rank of the teams as of the race indicated. Note that the races are ordered by number, then division, which may not represent the order in which the races were actually sailed.

The first place team as of a given race will always be at the top of the chart. The spacing from one team to the next shows relative gains/losses made from one race to the next. You may hover over the data points to display the total score as of that race.
