Dellenbaugh Women's Trophy

A beautiful day for college sailing! The Dellenbaugh Women's Trophy competitors were treated to sunny skies, temps in the 50's on the water, and a building Southerly breeze that started out Southeast at around 6 knots and built to 16 knots or so out of the South. 10 races in each division were sailed with A-division sailing FJs and B-division in Z420s for day one on all W4 courses. Thanks to Sally Evans (Brown 2011) for judging on day one and hearing one protest that was disallowed and one redress that was denied. Special thanks as well to Justin Assad for being the ICSA Rep and to Rob Migliaccio for taking photos throughout the day that will be posted on the NEISA Facebook page. Yale has a huge lead heading into day two, race 11A scheduled to begin at 10am.

A crazy day at the Dellenbaugh! As usual the Dellenbaugh Women's Trophy delivered. Sailors arrived to 20-30 knots out of the South with big waves and temps in the 50's. The decision was made to use only Z420s for both divisions with an off set for each and to sail as close to shore as possible. A-division sailed races 11 and 12 in a solid 20 plus knots with gusts near 30 knots. A number of boats capsized and some had to be rescued, resulting in a postponement ashore for approximately an hour. Once the breeze came down at around 12:45pm, B-division went out and sailed in a nice 15-18 knot Southerly that began trending to the West. The last set in each division saw the breeze slowly die down and move West with the occasional huge puff and some rain. By race 14B it was West/Southwest at 6-8 knots to wrap up racing for the day. All races were W3, W4, or W5. One request for redress was granted to Harvard in races 13A and 14A and one DSQ was given in race 11B to Old Dominion.
