J-70 Open

Summary

Saturday, April 6:

Saturday was a crazy and busy day on the Thames! The J-70 Open and the Wick were sailed out of Jacobs Rock. In the morning, one race was attempted in a dying Northerly with a strong ebb. The race was abandoned at the windward mark when the current was exceeding the wind. During the lunch break, the see breeze looked like it was going to fill in but a light NE came in and the fleet was sent out where another race was started and abandoned at the weather mark.

The Southerly finally filled in and it was looking great. Two races were sailed and near the finish of race two, the breeze died yet again. Once again a North breeze (NW) filled back in. Four more races were sailed and the boats were back on the dock just before 6pm. The wind range was 3-14 knots with a ebb that made for tricky sailing for competitors and RC. Racing is tight at the front of the fleet and we are hoping for an early sea breeze on Sunday to rip off more races!

Sunday, April 7:

The sea breeze filled in right at report time. Six more races were sailed in 6-12 knots with minimum current, making great conditions for early April! The top 3 were close throughout the weekend with URI finishing in the top 2 in the last five races to win the event by 5 points over host Coast Guard with Vermont another 4 points behind. The biggest improvement from Saturday was KP, who won 3 races today and moved up to 4th for the event. We look forward to hosting another J-70 event in two weeks!

Score history

The following chart shows the relative rank of the teams as of the race indicated. Note that the races are ordered by number, then division, which may not represent the order in which the races were actually sailed.

The first place team as of a given race will always be at the top of the chart. The spacing from one team to the next shows relative gains/losses made from one race to the next. You may hover over the data points to display the total score as of that race.
