The team race challenge serves as the last chance qualifier for the Prosser Trophy (MAISA Conference Team Race Championship and Nationals Qualifier). Seven teams arrived to Cornell with two spots available for the Prosser hosted next weekend, also at Cornell.
The breeze was slow to fill, but finally came in around 10:30am from the forecasted south direction. It was light, but built throughout the day. Rotations went smoothly and a double round robin was completed with just enough time for a final 4. Going into the final 4, Cornell was 12-0, and SUNY Maritime, Kings Point, and Penn were all tied at 7-5. With Cornell having clinched, it was 3 teams for 1 spot. The final 4 was breezy with gusts topping out at 20+ and Maritime sailed well to take the last spot with a 3-0 record.
We had a fantastic group of umpires led by CHUMP Rob Overton, John Pearce, John Moulthrop, Elliot Morrill, Alex Woloshyn, Jamie Landi, and Matt Schofield. Thank you!
Cornell Sailors did a great job helping facilitate the racing on the water. All in all, 48 races were completed with the last race completed at 5:45pm.
Congratulations to Cornell for winning the team race challenge, and to SUNY Maritime for finishing 2nd and qualifying for the Prosser.
