Phebe Corckran King Women's

Today provided some of Charleston’s best sailing ever! But before the sailors left the dock a special memorial was presented for Phebe Corckran King, a ‘96 alum of the college and two time all -American who lost a hard fought battle with cancer in November 2016. This year marks the first annual Phebe Corckran King Women’s Intersectional and we were honored her Mom and Dad , Jenny and Jim Corckran , 2 children Lindsay and Zander and nephew James were able to join us to celebrate Phebe’s life and her special impact on all of us! We at C of C are proud to be able to name this event for Phebe.

When the sailors started the first race at 10am there was a nice 8-10 mph sw breeze. Quickly it built to a spectacular 10-15 with some subtle 10-15 degree shifts to keep it interesting. The current was a bit less exciting than normal so all in all it was a beautiful day and when the 10th B Race was completed around 3:15 Charleston led Stanford by 2 points with George Washington third. Tomorrow’s forecast looks to bring a forecast of another chamber of commerce day with 12-18 mph breeze, sunshine and warm temps in the low 70’s!

It didn’t seem possible that there could be another great day of sailing but a 10-12 mph sw breeze and even warmer temps greeted the sailors today. Racing started at 9:50 and all 3 races in each division were completed by 11:30. Teams that drove to Chucktown were on the road by noon and those who flew enjoyed a great afternoon at the beach. A close series between Stanford and Charleston was eventually won by Charleston when all the scoring was complete. Congrats to the Cougars and the Cardinals! Thanks to Icsa rep Dillon Pavia and Mike Callahan for staying and hearing the only protest. And thanks to team Cougars for running some great races!
