A brisk northwest breeze of 12-22 knots and some snow flurries greeted the sailors on the Charles River this morning. Turbo FJs with storm jibs handled the breeze nicely; the end of the day came a bit earlier than scheduled as a 25 knot puff started wiping out lots of cold sailors, and a safety decision was made to send the fleet home after 2.5 round robins.
Tomorrow, we'll finish the 3rd round robin and go for another 2 round robins. RC Fran Charles was assisted on shore by Wally Corwin and a bunch of MIT team members who braved the cold in the finish boat and handled scoring duties, including: Isabelle Yen, Ryan Hennessey, Emily Haig, Tiffany Xi, Greta Farrell, Sarah Caso and MIT assistant sailing coaches David Larson and Hanna Vincent.
Don't remember to spring forward and come for a 9:30am report time (this means a really early morning).
A more tranquil, sunny day on the river with a cool start in the low 30s, but warming up to 45F by mid-day. NW winds started at 8-12 knots, and veered to the north for the later races.
Congratulations to the Tufts Jumbos for putting on a great display of team racing. PRO Fran Charles completed 4 round robins with a "3 minute justice" system being used to hear several protests.
Thanks to the many members of the MIT sailing team who braved the cold conditions. Today we had Charles Lindsay braving the elements in the finish boat, along with help from Annie Hughes and James Peraire-Bueno.
