Very brisk conditions with WNW at 20-30 knots and temps in the low 30s all day long. The digital N course was abandoned after excessive swimming in the first few races. The sailors enjoyed a modified starboard triangle with the gybe mark directly off the MIT dock. Sailors still went swimming but with less frequency than the first flights. Storm jibs were used throughout the day and the puffs were gnarly all day long. Racing was cut short at the end of the afternoon as many sailors were out of gas entirely.
Alex Bost, Mike Kalin, Thatcher Chamberlin, and Franny Charles (assisted by Lucinda Charles) were handling race management and rescues all day long. Sunday report time will be 10:30 with jib sheets and mainsheets inside the heated pavilion for the evening.
Exceedingly cold temps caused a one hour delay to let everything warm up a bit more. Temps never broke 30F and jib sheets and mainsheets were freezing up. Ice formed in all bilges and on the sails and decks. With the breeze at 10-12 knots full size sails and the N course were used all day long. Sailing was halted after completion of the full round robin as many crews were very cold, getting silent, and had had enough sailing for the day. Hanna Vincent, Mike Kalin, and Alex Bost were on rescue duty. Fran and Lucy Charles were in the start boat.
Congrats to the Terriers from BU on winning the Ike Geiger Trophy on a 3 way tie-breaker over Roger Williams and Harvard.
