Laker Showdown

Summary

Saturday, April 1:

Sailors were greated with sunny skies and little wind. The morning started out slow, until a westerly thermal started up, speeds between 6 and 8 knots. After an hour of postponement teams were on the water and racing by 11am. Racing occured quickly and in timely fashion; we were able to race 4 full sets. The wind increased throughout the afternoon and the the shifts became fewer. Right before the last B set went out the wind shifted north and a course change occured, shortly thereafter the speeds also began to decline. No protests were heard.

At the end of Day 1 GVSU was in third, Michigan State in second, and Wisconsin in first place. A special recognition goes out to Hillsdale College who competed at the Laker Showdown, their first regatta as a sailing club!

Judges for the event were Jack Knoblauch, JD Stone and Roger Gamache. RC was Michael Norris.

Sunday, April 2:

After a short postponement, races were off around 11am. Skies were variable between cloudy and sunny, wind speeds a little less around 6 knots. Another thermal was to thank for the set we were able to race, ending the regatta with 5 rotations and 10 A races, 10 B races.

Day 2 final results included Hope in third, Michigan State in second and Wisconsin in first place overall.

RC and Judges remained the same as Saturday.

Score history

The following chart shows the relative rank of the teams as of the race indicated. Note that the races are ordered by number, then division, which may not represent the order in which the races were actually sailed.

The first place team as of a given race will always be at the top of the chart. The spacing from one team to the next shows relative gains/losses made from one race to the next. You may hover over the data points to display the total score as of that race.
