Racers were greeted with a soggy and chilly morning with little wind. The fleet was AP'd ashore until about noon when a 10 knot westerly filled in. The Columbia was flowing at a rate of 450,000 cubic feet of water per second through Bonneville Dam, which produced upwards of 2.5 knots of current on some sections of the race course. Starts and mark roundings were challenging. The I Flag was flown all weekend, but there were still half a dozen general recalls. At one point the windward mark went for a ride down river and the fleet was recalled half way up the beat. The challenging conditions kept the competitors and race committee on their toes. The breeze gradually built to 12-13 knots by mid afternoon, which made downwind progress a bit easier. Racing was called off at 5pm as a rain squall settled in over us and the breeze went north.
Sunday was a redeeming day for the Gorge. The drizzle quickly gave way to sun breaks and the first warning came right at 10am in a 10 knot westerly. The breeze built to 15-17 knots at times, with frequent oscillations before trending right at the end of the day. River flow was slightly less (430,000 cubic feet/second), but still plenty to wreak havoc. The course was set further upriver in hopes of less current, which seemed to help. Rotations took a bit longer, but it made the downwind legs much more dynamic because the shore was not as much in play.
The alumni still proved they could sail an FJ, with 3 of the top 5 teams being alumi boats. It was great fun for all and good chance for multiple generations to come together on the water. Big thanks to CGRA for once again opening its doors to us, UW for playing host, all the alumni who took turns marksetting/safety boating, and PROs Paul Foley and Andrew Nelson who got to sail when they weren't blowing whistles.

The following chart shows the relative rank of the teams as of the race indicated. Note that the races are ordered by number, then division, which may not represent the order in which the races were actually sailed.
The first place team as of a given race will always be at the top of the chart. The spacing from one team to the next shows relative gains/losses made from one race to the next. You may hover over the data points to display the total score as of that race.
