A strong breeze of 18-20 knots out the northwest with gusts to 28 caused a morning postponement. The first race finally started at approximately 11:30AM when the puffs subsided. Puffy conditions made for some tough sailing for some sailors as there were a number of capsizes throughout the day. Thankfully capable safety boats were able to assist when necessary. At 3:00PM the wind kicked back up and postponed racing until 4:30 when the decision was made to call it a day. A total of 5 races were sailed on Saturday, three 'A' races and two 'B' races. One protest was heard and thrown out. Leading the regatta at the end of day one are the Stony Brook Sea-wolves followed by the Fordham Rams and the Washington College Shoremen.
Attention Competitors** Someone accidentally picked up a red and black OS dry suit that belongs to another team. Please bring it tomorrow morning to the race committee so it can be returned to the rightful owner. Thank you!
The sailors were greeted with a westerly breeze of 7-8 knots with gusts up to 12 knots. The first start was at 9:45AM. Only one 'A' division race was able to be sailed before the wind shut off. Racing was postponed until 11:30PM when a southwest wind picked up and 'B' division was able to get out for their set. The race committee had to contend with heavy oscillations in the wind and make the necessary course adjustments. Three 'A' races and four 'B' races were sailed today. Congratulations to the top teams: Fordham Rams 1, Stony Brook Seawolves 1, and Fordham Rams 2. Also, a big thank you to Shrewsbury Sailing & Yacht Club and its members for volunteering their time to help run the regatta!
