Villanova Spring Open

Summary

Saturday, April 9:

The Villanova Spring Open started in a very un-springlike fashion. After a brief delay to allow the breeze to settle in, the teams hit the water in a brisk (it was 36 degrees) northerly and some light snow. PRO Skip Swikart efficiently ran 6 starts all under I flag due to the magnitude of the current. All courses were W4 except for a W3 for race 6. During race 6, visibility dropped to less than 100 yards due to heavy snow and smoke on the water from the temperature differences. Due to the limited visibility and generally unpleasant conditions with little expectation of improvement, racing was called off for the day. Hampton holds a decisive advantage over all comers, smartly using the current to their advantage and commanding the left side of the course all day.

Sunday, April 10:

Due to the still unseasonably cold temperatures (25 degrees at report time), and with qualifiers looming next weekend the decision was made to keep the players safe and to forgo the second day of racing. Congratulations to the Hampton Pirates on the win in very demanding conditions. Big thanks to The Corinthian Yacht Club of Philadelphia for the support in letting us use the facilities. Skip Swikart was a stalwart on Race Committee along with Lawson Buckley (Nova '18), Lauren Tschrich (Nova '19), Austin Tipp (Nova '18) and Penn coach Billy Martin. Best of luck to everyone next weekend.

Score history

The following chart shows the relative rank of the teams as of the race indicated. Note that the races are ordered by number, then division, which may not represent the order in which the races were actually sailed.

The first place team as of a given race will always be at the top of the chart. The spacing from one team to the next shows relative gains/losses made from one race to the next. You may hover over the data points to display the total score as of that race.
