Competitor's arrived for a cushy 10:30am report time that let things warm up a bit. A chilly north breeze of 8-12 knots started the early flights and slowly went east throughout the day and lightened. With a pulsing breeze, many of the afternoon races were slow, but the team racing was good. 31 races were completed with two protests filed. One DSQ was given and another protest will be heard tomorrow. Thanks to judge Peter Bailey (Brown '15) and URI coach Skip Whyte for hearing the protest. Photographer Rob Migliaccio was on hand to take incredible pics that will be up on the NEISA Facebook page. Thanks as well to the many Brown sailors who helped out on a brisk day. Race 32 warning will be at 10am tomorrow. The Brown Bears lead the way with a 6-0 record.
A beautiful day with temps in the 40's and sunny but very frustrating for the Race Committee. We saw every direction today except the south and keeping up with the fickle breeze and keeping the Digital N course in the correct configuration was difficult at times. Lots of races were abandoned earlier in the day, and after an hour delay on land some breeze filled in to finish up the round robin and just barely get in a final four by the 3pm deadline. Most of the racing was primarily in a north/northeast breeze at 3-6 knots. Huge shifts, pressure differences, and a pulsing breeze kept the sailors on their toes and no race was ever really over until the finish. We got everything we could today out of what breeze we had.
Thanks to judge Peter Bailey (Brown '15) and MIT Coach Matt Lindblad for hearing another protest today resulting in a DSQ for Dartmouth in their final race of the final four. Photographer Rob Migliaccio was on hand to take incredible pics that will be up on the NEISA Facebook page soon. Thanks as well to the many Brown sailors who helped out all weekend. Some very exciting racing in the final four with the Brown Bears winning the 2016 Sharpe Trophy.
