Gnarly doesn't even begin to describe the sailing on Saturday. Winds were sustained above 20 knots, temperatures in the low 30's, and snow. After postponement in hopes of bettering conditions, racing was canceled. However, teams were offered the chance to sail around and brave the weather. Four teams sailed for ~ one hour.
Sunday's weather was much better. The high of 55 was reached mid afternoon, after sailing was over. However, morning wind was a consistent 10 knots and temperatures were not too brutal. Sometimes the sun even showed through the snowy clouds. After de-frosting the boats with boiling water, the racing began. We were able to get through 3 rotations (6 races) before the end of the day. A couple capsizes occurred and sailors were remedied with warm showers and fireside lunch. All in all, a great day of racing. Congrats to Virginia Tech who won 1st overall, Miami University for 2nd and Toledo for 3rd.
