Sailors arrived to SUNY Maritime College and glassy conditions on the East River. after a long morning wind delay 2 races in each division were able to be completed in the cove as the northerly breeze died.
After another short wind delay the sea breeze kicked in as promised at about 4:00pm and 6 more races were sailed on the East River to get through 8B.
Fantastic races were run by PRO Morgan Wilson and the Cadets who stuck around after finals were over to help run races. All breakdowns were quickly handled by the SUNY Maritime Cadets in charge of markset/breakdown.
4 protests were heard resulting in 3 DSQ's
Thanks to USMMA sailing team for loaning their launches to allow coaches to be on the water.
Thanks to Judges John and Anne Mooney for calling rule 42 on the water and hearing the protests late this evening.
The divisional switch will happen for race 9. A division will be in 420's and B will be in FJ's
Weather in New York this morning was unseasonable for the first day of May. Sailors arrived to SUNY Maritime College for the second day of the 2016 America trophy to light easterly breeze and rainy conditions.
Each division sailed 4 races in the cove in the morning in 4-10 knots before a short lunch break while the RC moved the course into the East River. During the afternoon the RC was able to squeeze in 5 races per division with race 17B getting off minutes before the 4pm cutoff.
The Race Committee team of PRO Morgan Wilson, and SUNY Maritime Sailors Matt Romanuski, Andrew Hall, Mike Bell-Wright, Juan Lejagarra, Lindsey Grant, Timmy Montera, John Nothacker, James Broyles, and Jimmy Keegan did a fantastic job of running races in some of the most challenging conditions!
Thank you to Michael Collins and the Kings Point Dinghy team for loaning their FJ Jibs as well as their great launches for coach boats.
Congrats to the MAISA All-Conference team award winners and to all of the teams who qualified for Semi-Finals in San Diego
