Racing for the 81st annual Boston Dinghy Challenge Cup began in a light NNW breeze that faded quickly. After a delay, a nice SSE wind filled at 3-6 knots and a total of 6 races were held for A and B divisions with 7 races completed in C division.
MIT Sailing Master Fran Charles served as PRO and manned the start boat while Harvard undergraduates Dan Leichus, Ben Zheng, and Bennett Capozzi handled the finish boat and scoring. Emily Lambert (Harvard '13) assisted as well.
A huge thank you to judges Luke O'Connor (Harvard '15), Michael Drumm (Harvard '15) and Hugh Dougherty who heard 2 protests and 1 request for redress. MIT dockstaff Ian Williams and Wally Corwin helped with breakdowns.
Bizarre conditions with a swirling breeze from the NW, N, NE, E, SE, S and also some hits from the W made for challenging racing. The racing remained tight all around the race track with inner and outer trapezoid courses sailed for the two fleets of FJs. Thanks to Dan Rabin from Brown was the icsa rep and Colin Santangelo with Hugh Dougherty and Matt Knowles were judges today. The Harvard Sailing Team members in supporting roles of scoring and finishing were Sophie Bermudez and Viktor Kamenker and they were led by assistant coach Emily Lambert. MIT Varsity Coach Matt Lindblad was moving marks continuously all day trying to stay ahead of the swirl.
Harvard sailed to the victory in the oldest college sailing event in the country with the next seven teams within 21 points of each other.

The following chart shows the relative rank of the teams as of the race indicated. Note that the races are ordered by number, then division, which may not represent the order in which the races were actually sailed.
The first place team as of a given race will always be at the top of the chart. The spacing from one team to the next shows relative gains/losses made from one race to the next. You may hover over the data points to display the total score as of that race.
