Increasing breeze greeted the sailors for the New England Dinghy Tournament, a mini championship held at BU and hosted by UNH. The top two teams will qualify for the New England Championship to be held at Salve May 2-3. Thanks to BU for allowing us to host. Special thanks to Stan and Jason for their assistance.
A moment of silence was held for Nathaniel Alexander a sailor from Middlebury whose unexpected passing a few weeks ago impacted all who knew him. Everyone was reminded that coaches are support resources as are peers and that all of our schools also have multiple resources to assist students with any concerns.
After waiting for the last crews to come up river teams headed out. Large gusts sent many teams over, rounded others up and in general led to a great deal of wet rides and many capsizes. Reaching back and forth was also an exhilarating wild wet ride. A few sailors needed to be rescued. Thanks to the UNH B team and Madison Joslin for helping out. All of that was before we could even get all the boats down to the sailing area. Capsizes continued as boats tried to get downriver. After multiple sustained breeze readings at 22 and a few gusts to 25, the Charles River laced the tops of many sails with its muddy presence. Sailors headed back to the BU docks to wait a bit.
At about 1pm with continued sustained gusts of 17+ the days races were canceled. Report time is 9:30 tomorrow morning. Breeze is predicted to be a bit lighter.
Thanks to Brian the UConn coach for being the NEISA rep.
What a gorgeous day! The Rivah Chuck served one up along with fickle, shifty breeze. Thanks to all the competitors who helped make this mini championship happen, and your patience with conditions yesterday.
There were two protests with one disallowed and one chucked. A redress for breakdown was filed and denied. Only one general recall.
Thanks to Brian from UConn for being the NEISA rep. and to both he, Connor and a few other coaches for doing due diligence with the protests and redress, making things run smoothly on the dock. Again thanks to BU for allowing the UNH Wildcats to host the New England Dinghy Tournament. Thanks also to Ryan Gershuny and Casey Hargbol who worked the mark boat and served as the repair facility, and to Madison Joslin who helped keep the RC organized with scores etc.
At the end of the day congratulations to the top two teams who qualified for the New England Dinghy Championship, Middlebury Panthers (and quite fitting given the weekend and having to miss a memorial service and the UNH Wildcats!! The UNH Wildcats declined as that weekend is the teams major fundraiser and so the next team in line is the Johnson and Wales Wildcats.

The following chart shows the relative rank of the teams as of the race indicated. Note that the races are ordered by number, then division, which may not represent the order in which the races were actually sailed.
The first place team as of a given race will always be at the top of the chart. The spacing from one team to the next shows relative gains/losses made from one race to the next. You may hover over the data points to display the total score as of that race.
