Racing began at one o'clock with the breeze coming from a south easterly direction at approx. 4 knots. It moved right and continually built through the day to a south westerly direction at approx. 10 knots. 16 races were completed by 5:40 in the afternoon during the first day of competition with 8 races being held in each division. There were two protests filed with the race committee, one of which was heard by the judges and disallowed and the second protest resulted with MIT withdrawing from the race.
