It was a wet and wild day on the Thames today. Ten races were completed in a building northwesterly before the race committee sent everyone in to take a breathe. The wind ranged from 10 to 35 knots during the first ten races. One more attempt to sail everyone in FJs was made before it was deemed too windy. Competitors then rigged six Z420s with the hope to sail one race at a time. After just two races, even that was a little too much as the wind started to top out in the low 40s. Racing was called at 3:45 with a more promising forecast tomorrow. Thanks to Dan Winter, Josh Morrison, and Erin Morgan for helping on the finish boat. And thank you to Charles Higgins from ODU and Kelsey Wheeler from Dartmouth for lending a hand as an extra safety boat.
Despite a typical westerly on the Thames - shifty and unpredictable - Sunday turned out to be an almost perfect day for team racing! The remaining races in Round 1 and all of Round 2 were completed in a west-southwest breeze that ranged from two to fifteen knots. Thank you to Josh Morrison, Dylan Finneran, and Jaimie Chicoine who helped in the finish boat today.
Five protests were heard at the conclusion of racing, resulting in three DSQs. Thanks to Amanda Callahan (Roger Williams), Ben Greenfield (Boston University), Charles Higgins (Old Dominion), Kelsey Wheeler (Dartmouth), and Chris Klevan (Coast Guard) for hearing protests.
Congratulations to Roger Williams for winning the 2015 Barque Eagle Team Race. And many thanks to our two MAISA teams - Old Dominion and St. Mary's - for making the trip!
