America Trophy/MAISA Dinghy Champs

Summary

Saturday, May 2:

Beautiful sunny skies and a crisp 10-14 knot northerly greeted the best of the MAISA Conference this morning for the final event of the regular season. The breeze died throughout the day though and once that trend began, we saw directions of everything from WNW to E and wind strengths that varied from 4-9 knots.

The race committee was very active shifting the course frequently to ensure square legs throughout the day. 2 protests were filed resulting in 1 DSQ. Many thanks to Gordon Wolcott and Christine Accettella for judging and umpiring throughout the day.

And a huge thanks to the ODU Monarchs for running some tough races in trying conditions in the middle of final exams.

In all 6 A Races and 5 B races were completed before the breeze died completely. Tomorrow looks to be a great day to be on the water and complete the regatta. Stay tuned...

Sunday, May 3:

The 2015 America Trophy finished up in dramatic fashion. Only one race was completed and scored. Races 7A & 8A were sailed but a lack of sufficient breeze meant races 7B and 8B were unable to be completed. Several attempts were made throughout the afternoon with B division spending a significant amount of time on the water waiting. A final attempt at a start came too late and the regatta was officially over as the time limit expired.

In the end 6 races for each division were scored. One request for redress was heard and denied. Again many thanks to Gordon Wolcott and Christine Accettella for hearing protests and redresses this weekend. Also a huge thanks to the Monarch Sailors who did all they could to run good and fair races over the course of the regatta.

Congratulations to the top 9 teams for advancing to the Gill College Sailing National Championship in Newport June 1-4 and to the Georgetown Hoyas for winning the 2015 America Trophy.

Score history

The following chart shows the relative rank of the teams as of the race indicated. Note that the races are ordered by number, then division, which may not represent the order in which the races were actually sailed.

The first place team as of a given race will always be at the top of the chart. The spacing from one team to the next shows relative gains/losses made from one race to the next. You may hover over the data points to display the total score as of that race.
