Truxtun Umsted

Summary

Saturday, April 12:

The first day of the 2014 Truxtun Umsted Regatta was a beautiful day in Annapolis with sunny skies and temperatures in the 70s. Shorty after report time a light Easterly filled in and PRO Kyle Assad and his team of Midshipmen set a course off Triton Point. Two races for the doublehanded divisions and one race for the single handed divisions were completed before the wind died completely and the fleet came in for an early lunch break. After lunch, we had just enough of a Southeasterly to set a course int eh Severn River off the Robert Crown Center and sail through race 6 in all four divisions. All races were on a trapezoid course in 3-6 knots of wind with a half knot flooding current in the afternoon. One protest was filed resulting in one DSQ. Thanks to Jahn Tihansky for helping out on the protest committee.

Sunday, April 13:

On Sunday, a Southerly breeze filled in the morning and the course was set off Triton Point. It was another sunny and warm day and the wind held steady in the 5-10 range throughout the morning. Four races were completed in all divisions on a trapezoid course before we took a break for Lunch. After lunch, the wind strengthened into the mid and then upper teens for the remaining four races. Two breakdowns were awarded, one for a broken Laser mast and the other for a broken hiking strap line. One protest was heard and disallowed due to lack of facts found. Many thinks to Janel Zarkowski, Zack Marks, Mitch Brindley, Adam Werblow, and Russ O'Reilly for issuing swift justice in those hearings and thanks again to Kyle Assad and his team of Midshipmen for another terrific day of Race Committee work. Congratulations to the Charleston Cougars for claiming the victory in the 2014 Truxtun Umsted Regatta.

The following chart shows the relative rank of the teams as of the race indicated. Note that the races are ordered by number, then division, which may not represent the order in which the races were actually sailed.

The first place team as of a given race will always be at the top of the chart. The spacing from one team to the next shows relative gains/losses made from one race to the next. You may hover over the data points to display the total score as of that race.
