New England Dinghy Tournament

The UNH Wildcats thanks to Fran Charles were able to host the New England Dinghy Tournament this weekend at MIT in both FJ's and Fireflies. The crew races kept competitors on the dock until 11:45 and racers had to be completely off the water for additional afternoon crew races that begun at 4pm. Notable was the positive sports conduct of all sailors. Very few circles were noted and no protests were lodged. There was also an ROTC Tech regatta being held at the same time which made for some interesting crossing situations as boats went in to rotate. A sailed FJ's and B sailed Fireflies. Sailors sailed both an inner and outer trapezoid. The breeze fluctuated from 11 - 19 mph and several gusts were recorded in the 25-26mph range. It made for interesting runs, broaches, death rolls and merriment and a few good pictures! One request for redress was filed at the end of the day due to a breakdown and coaches will hear that early tomorrow morning. Thanks to Wally Corbin for dock duty, repair duty, and rigging assistance with the new FJ booms. Race 4B and 5A were abandoned due to fleets finishing too close for accurate scoring by the finish boat. They will be resailed tomorrow. A division has 1 race tomorrow, and B has 3 races tomorrow. It may have reached 52 degrees today but you could have fooled all competitors and regatta assistants.

Congratulations to the University of Connecticut and Middlebury College for qualifying for The New England Championship. Teams arrived to great breeze today, shifty as the Rivah Chuck typically is. All races were completed with no protests. One redress was granted for equipment problems. I want to thank Fran Charles again for not only allowing us to host but providing some creative suggestions. Wall Corbin on hand as always to help anyone with any issue. Super thanks to the Wildcat support team who included Molly Goelzer, Zac Karakouzian, Zach Cronin, Emily Chase and Cara Dooley who provided scoring and finish boat assistance over the two days. Thanks again.

For those few teams who did not fill out the RP form please do so online asap. This new system is beneficial to all, saves paper and headaches trying to read handwriting and is more efficient. Thanks to Dyan and Matt for continually thinking ahead.
