Army Spring Open

Sailors arrived to the Cornwall Yacht Club waterfront and were greeted with a chilly NNW 10 knot breeze on Newburgh Bay. Winds were shifty, but remained in the 10 knot range for both of 'A' division's races. Parting rain clouds gave way to a weakening and shifty breeze and made tough work for the PRO and the crew on the mark boat. Eventually two races in 'B' division were completed. The wind dropped below 3 knots and was not enough to overcome the strong ebb current and sailors were sent back to the docks around 1300 during the postponement. Teams enjoyed a BBQ hosted by Army, but the wind never filled in and racing was called off for the day at 1530.

Racing resumed on Newburgh Bay at 0930. Winds were steady out of the NNW at 15-20 knots with an incoming flood tide. Winds oscillated through 40 degrees for most of the morning. Eight competitive races were eventually completed with dying breeze and choppy tidal currents bringing an end to racing around 1400. All races were sailed on W4 courses.
