It was a long day in Annapolis for the first day of the 2013 Truxtun Umsted Regatta. Fortunately, the rainy forecast for the day proved incorrect, but unfortunately so did the wind forecast for 5-10 all day. PRO Kyle Assad and his team of Midshipmen brought the fleet out into the river on three different occasions throughout the day, starting and abandoning four races as the wind never filled in for long enough to get anything done. After a long day of waiting, the volunteers of the Naval Academy Sailing Squadron fired up the grill and treated the competitors to a complimentary cookout, which lifted spirits and also brought the breeze, which began to fill at 5 PM from the north. The Race Committee quickly set a trapezoid course in Annapolis Harbor and four races were completed per division before the sun set. Five protests and redress requests were filed that will be heard beginning at 0845 tomorrow.
Sailing was postponed this morning until 9:45 to allow for protest and redress hearings from yesterday's racing in which one DSQ was decided in race 2B and one breakdown was granted in in race 3B.
After hearing protests, the fleet was sent out on Annapolis Harbor and racing resumed in a 12 to 15 knot Easterly breeze which faded to around 4 to 5 knots by the end of the day. Eight races were completed in all four divisions for a total of 12 on the weekend. After racing, one breakdown hearing was heard and granted in race 7A.
A whopping thank you to PRO Professor Kyle Assad and to our Judges Dick Morin and Alana O'Reilly. Happy St. Patty's day to all.

The following chart shows the relative rank of the teams as of the race indicated. Note that the races are ordered by number, then division, which may not represent the order in which the races were actually sailed.
The first place team as of a given race will always be at the top of the chart. The spacing from one team to the next shows relative gains/losses made from one race to the next. You may hover over the data points to display the total score as of that race.
